Kaushal received an engineering degree from the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology. He was born to action director Sham Kaushal. In order to pursue a career with film, he assisted Anurag Kashyap in the criminal drama Gangs of Wasseypur (2012) and afterwards appeared in two of Kashyap’s films.
Following that, he acted as an unhinged cop in Kashyap’s psychological thriller Raman Raghav 2.0, for which he won the IIFA and Screen Awards for Best Male Debut (2016).
